Package VII: China Historical Cities Tour Beijing→Qufu→Kaifeng→Luoyang→Xi'an→Chengdu→Nanjing→Yangzhou→Suzhou→Hangzhou→Shanghai 1. Beijing Beijing is the capital of the People's Republic of China. It is unarguably the heart of the nation's politics, culture and international intercourse. It is a fast changing and modern city full of vigor. Beijing is one of the six ancient capital cities in Chinese history. The other five ancient cities are Xian, Luoyang, Kaifeng, Nanjing and Hangzhou. It once used as the capital for the dynasties such as Jin, Yuan, Ming and Qin. 2. Qufu (Hometown of Confucius) Qufu is historical and cultural city, it was the hometown of Confucius (551-479 B.C.), the celebrated thinker, philosopher and educationist in ancient China. For twenty-five centuries, he has exerted profound influence on Chinese society with his ideas right up to the present century. Among historical sites there, the most famous are Temple of Confucius, Confucius Mansion, and Forest of Confucius. 3. Kaifeng Kaifeng, known as "the Capital of Seven Dynasties", is a famous city with a long history, splendid traditions, and a great number of cultural relics and historic sites. It was proclaimed as one of the 24 famous historic and cultural cities. Kaifeng was once called Daliang and Bianliang in history. 4. Luoyang Luoyang served as the capital for nine dynasties over a period of more than 1,500 years. 96 emperors from the prehistoric Xia Dynasties, through Shang, Western and Eastern Zhous, Cao Wei, Sui, Later Liang, Later Tang and Later Jin Eastern Han established their seat of power there. Luoyang's importance in history means that it has significant influence in China's cultural heritage and has many historical sites. 5. Xi'an Xi'an, also named Chang'an, is the biggest city in north-west China. It once served as the nation's capital for thirteen dynasties such as Western Zhou (11th century BC - 771 BC), Qin (221 BC - 206 BC), Western Han (206 BC - 24 AD) and Tang for over 1000 years. It is well noted for historical value. 6. Chengdu The administrative seat of several ancient kingdoms, Chengdu has a 2,300-year history as an important center of study and trade. In the early fourth century BC, the ancient Shu state established a capital in today's Chengdu. 7. Nanjing One of Four Great Ancient Capitals of China, Nanjing, called Jinling in ancient China, is the capital of Jiangsu Province. History has left the place numerous historical sites and heritage relics. 8. Yangzhou 9. Suzhou The beautifully landscaped city is located in the south-east of Jiangsu Province. The Grand Canal (Sui Dynasty 581-618), which flows from Beijing to Hangzhou has irrigated Suzhou aiding its illustrious culture and turning it into prosperous land.
